Lil Wayne says the New York Yankees once pushed him to change the original Young Money logo because its design was too close to the team’s famous interlocking NY symbol.
During a recent interview, the rapper recalled receiving a cease-and-desist letter over the early YM logo. Wayne said he decided not to fight the request and instead moved on with a different design. He also described the moment with a sense of respect, noting the significance of hearing directly from such a historic sports organization.
The original Young Money branding was closely tied to the label’s rise during the late 2000s and early 2010s. The imprint became one of the most recognizable names in hip-hop as artists including Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga built major careers under its banner.
